Emerging Projects
Our expansive vision for the Center includes adding resources and building community around key areas such as: moving research toward whole system models, inter-professional practice, integrative pain models, inter-institutional relationships, and the roles of integrative health and medicine disciplines in meeting primary care needs.

Projects under Consideration

Developing any of these projects will require a combination of the right people and new philanthropic partners.
  • Integrative pain management
The focus on multi-disciplinary approaches and team care is imbedded in the Institute of Medicine's 2011 report on Relieving Pain in America: A Blueprint for Transforming Prevention, Care, Education, and Research. This project will focus on stimulating understanding and utilization of the optimal timing in the use of conservative integrative practices and disciplines in the treatment of pain.
  • Elevating whole system/practice research
The need for what might be called a Copernican revolution in research design and methodology is not merely a concern in integrative health and medicine. Reductive models are barriers to understanding the whole person, and the individualized, multi-agent, team care that is optimal for many people with chronic conditions.
  • Inter-institutional relationships
In practice, optimal integration of integrative health and medicine practices often rests on high-quality, respectful inter-institutional models. This project highlights leading models and shares tools for developing the relationships that lead to best practices.
  • Meeting primary care needs
The over 350,000 licensed members of integrative health disciplines daily relieve significant burden on the nation's primary care system. This project will facilitate optimal inclusion of this workforce in healthcare system.
